Produced for BBC Learning, this musical which deals with bullying, was developed with learning disabled children. I Know Me – The Musical
Bullying is rife at Spieler School. Sidney is so bullied he wants to run away. He gets trapped on a fantasy journey with one of his bullies where they both experience and get to understand their own fear, anger and loneliness. They finally return to ‘earth’, both of them understanding their inner fears, anger and loneliness.

This musical was written and developed by Becky Applin and Owen Smith with pupils from several special schools and units in London and Stoke on Trent as a commission from the BBC. A quick tour of the school and the fantasy journey in the land of music through fear, anger and loneliness.
Part 1: School Photo
Time for a school photo. But where is the photographer? An why can’t the school bullies leave Sidney alone?
Part 2: Arrival in the land of Music
The school life opens at a floor they didn’t know existed where Sidney and one of the bullies find themselves in the land of music. The spirit promises to take them on a journey.
Part 3: Journey to the Angry Place
In the first destination iwe find a group of really angry young people taking their anger out on an old car. This anger resonates with our travellers when in time the spirit guides them on how to deal with their anger.
Part 4: Journey to the Scary Place
The next destination is a scary place – really spooky. The boys learn how to deal with fear with even the spooks joining in the a jolly song.
Part 5: Journey to the Lonely Place
Finally they meet to desolate and lonely youngsters and identify with their loneliness. Again the spirit guides then on how to deal with loneliness.
Part 6: Return to School
The boys return to the real school world transformed and friends. Sidney is not to be bullied anymore!
